Microgreens are tiny, young vegetable plants that are harvested when they are only 1 to 3 weeks old. They are bigger than sprouts but smaller than full-grown vegetables. Most microgreens stand only 1 to 3 inches tall when we cut them.
How Are They Grown?
At Honor Harvest Farms, we grow our microgreens indoors in clean trays filled with soil. We plant the seeds, give them filtered water, and let them grow under special lights. In about 7 to 14 days, they are ready to harvest. We cut them fresh, package them, and deliver them to you within 1 to 2 days. That means they reach your kitchen at the peak of freshness.
Why Are They Special?
Even though microgreens are small, they pack a big punch. Studies have shown that microgreens can have up to 40 times more vitamins and nutrients than the full-grown version of the same plant. That means a small handful of microgreens can give you the same goodness as a much larger serving of regular vegetables.
What Do They Taste Like?
Microgreens have strong, fresh flavors. Some taste sweet, some taste spicy, and some taste a little nutty. For example, radish microgreens have a peppery kick, pea shoots taste sweet like fresh garden peas, and sunflower shoots taste crunchy and nutty.
How Do You Eat Them?
Microgreens are easy to add to your meals. You can:
- Sprinkle them on salads
- Layer them in sandwiches and wraps
- Top your soups, eggs, or pizza with them
- Blend them into smoothies
- Use them as a fresh garnish on any dish
Are They Just for Decoration?
No way! While chefs love using microgreens to make fancy dishes look beautiful, microgreens are real food with real nutrition. They are a simple, tasty way to add more vitamins, minerals, and color to whatever you are eating.
